Welcome to SYNCHRO SWIM MANITOBA

IN MEMORY OF RICHARD ALAN MEADES

As many of you are already aware Richard Meades, beloved father of Natashia Meades, passed away peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, during the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, August 3, 2010.  Richard had been sick since late March. At the Marj Simpson meet he had complained of a sore back on deck and shortly after that was diagnosed with cancer and began treatment for his illness.  Natashia swims with Aquatica and is one of the top 17 swimming with the CWG team this summer.  The CWG team has been supporting Natashia throughout the summer during her Dad’s illness.  Her mother, Marielle, is on the Aquatica Board of Directors and has been working with Janie Patterson on awards this past year.  Her younger brother, Justin, is often in the stands watching practices between his own activities.  The Meades are active members of the synchro community supporting Natashia and her team and volunteering as much as they can while remaining active in sport themselves. A memorial service was held on Saturday, August 7th at 10:00 am at St. Charles Catholic Parish, 320 St. Charles Street on Portage Ave, by the perimeter.  Many members of the synchro community attended this service to celebrate his life.  A private family interment will follow at a later date.

Donations may be sent to CancerCare Manitoba on behalf of the family.

The SSM Board, along with other members of the synchro community send their condolences to Marielle and her family.

There is a very wide range of Synchronized Swimming opportunities in Manitoba. Programs are available for all: for the very young and masters alike, for those that would like to do Synchro occasionally to those with dreams of the Olympics.

Synchronized Swimming skills are acquired through a skill development system called the Star Program. It is a progressive way to learn Synchro skills regardless of your ultimate goals.

  • Aqua Squirt - An aquatic development program intended for younger swimmers (6-9). Basic swimming and Synchro skills are acquired through purposeful play. This program is an excellent bridge between standard swimming lesson levels.
  • Recreation/Star 1-3 - Entry level for all synchronized swimmers.
  • Provincial Stream - Swimmers progress through the age levels as they build on their skills and continue to master the skills in each Star level (of which there are 10). If interested, swimmers at this level may compete at a local, provincial or inter-provincial level.
  • National Stream - Swimmers master more complex skills in each SuperStar level. Swimmers at this level may compete locally, provincially, interprovincially, nationally and internationally.
  • Masters - For adult swimmers of any skill level. Swimmers from twenty years of age and over may participate. If interested, Masters swimmers may compete locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally.
Synchro Swim Manitoba offers a number of different services and programs. For specific information please cruise through this web site. If your questions are not answered, please call the office at (204) 925-5693.
